  1. I am most looking forward to supporting all of you with your staff development needs. I am here to support, encourage and challenge you! I plan to contribute to a positive school climate by being visible, and helping you celebrate all the "wins" big and small. I also plan to be a good listener. If you need me, I am here for you! I really love my job and am passionate about working together in moving our school forward so that all of our students succeed!

    1. I am looking forward to using what I learned about interventions last year with my experience with RtI. I think it will definitely be beneficial to be able to put the theory and data tracking/progress monitoring that was required from the staff into my own classroom. As for a positive climate--I like to just leave everything at the door. I will help anyone who needs it and I think it should be reciprocated. We are a team with a common goal and it is the right thing to do.

  2. I have a new slogan this year ASK, ANSWER, DISCUSS. I listened to a brain surgeon this summer talk about the way our brain takes information from short term to long term memory.....it seemed to line up with my slogan for the year and what I was planning to do in my classroom. Good Scientist, Readers, Mathematicians, always ask questions of the material they read, the problems that they are presented with, and they seek to answer those questions....discussion always brings the content to a deeper level. ASK me how it went at the end of the year, I'll give you and ANSWER then we can DISCUSS what we learned together!!!!

    1. I love the new slogan. If students follow it and take it to heart, there will be no stopping them. Being able to understand a problem and solve it in a variety of ways is key to their success. Thank you for being so reflective in determining how you make great teaching even better and tailored to meet student need!

  7. This year, I will continue to integrate the Core and Encore Essential Standards in my Art classes and differentiate with my AIG students. I will also share ideas with teachers on the Differentiation Blog, particularly through my Pinterest Boards for "Teaching Ideas" and "Differentiation."

To contribute to the positive environment, I am managing the school twitter account: www.twitter.com/diggslatham and the art twitter account: www.twitter.com/diggslathamart. I have set up a mini iPad for these accounts so I can capture moments around the school, take photos, and "tweet" about all the exciting things that are going on in our school.

You are contributing to our positive school climate and celebrating students, staff and teachers in "real-time". Your blogs are awesome and I suggest anyone who has not visited to do so. Thank you for going above and beyond.

  8. I plan to continue as a positive role model for our students and to be available to consult with staff regarding any health concerns that they may have for their students. Along with this, and most importantly, my unique CFST role allows me to work intensely with those students who are at risk of academic failure or out of home placement. Ms. Barger and I will continue our efforts to reach those families with the greatest disparities. Remember...if you do not see us on campus we are out working with those students that most need our support in the home and community. If you have concerns for someone in your classroom, please let us know.

Thank you for your dedication:)

  9. I am most looking forward to workshop time with my students. This is a time when I really can get to know them and watch them grow academically. It is so rewarding to watch a child master a concept, and I get an opportunity to observe this during small group work.

    1. Andrew, every time I see you, you have a smile on your face so you are already contributing to a positive environment. Your first paragraph is the reason I became a teacher in the first place. When you really "know" your students and can guide them through effective tiered instruction, there is no stopping their growth. Thank you for making the connections needed with our students. Welcome to DL.

  10. I am really excited about integration. I know PE can come alive with integrating math, reading, technology and more. The possibilities are endless. This will give students the possibility to learn new things while practicing skills they are learning in their classroom.

I am also very excited about starting a run/walk/crawl group at Diggs-Latham for the teachers. This gives teachers a chance to meet each other outside of the classroom and begin to form relationships with each other. I will also be positive each and every day and try to make each student's day just a little bit better.

  22. Now that I have known most of the upper grade students for 4 years I am looking forward to watching them CREATE their own integrated movement studies instead of always looking for mimicked movement. As for the little ones I am always excited to watch them BE children and laugh and grow while subconsciously achieving milestones in core curriculum. As far as climate, I hope to continuously be a ready source for our students and parents. Whether it be to share a laugh or achievement, hold a hand to the bus, wipe a tear, be a shoulder to colleagues, or discuss the tough development issues with parents. I love our school and our students. I couldn't imagine accomplishing new material each year without my team and community.
